<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Here we review the role of innate and adaptive immunity at ascending lung cancer stages in smoking and non-smoking patients. T cell activity and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines were found to be elevated in smokers. As a consequence, smoking has been identified as a significant risk factor promoting lung carcinogenesis. Further experimental research in this area will allow the development of novel diagnostic approaches, including circulating biomarkers and personalised medicine.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>обзор</kwd><kwd>курение</kwd><kwd>факторы иммунитета</kwd><kwd>рак лёгкого</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>review</kwd><kwd>smoking</kwd><kwd>immunity factors</kwd><kwd>lung cancer</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Исследование выполнено в рамках соглашения о создании молодёжной лаборатории (лаборатория онкогеномики) ФИЦ УУХ СО РАН в связи с постановлением Правительства Кемеровской области-Кузбасса от 19.09.2022 №623.</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">This study was funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kemerovo Region – Kuzbass (decree #623 from 19.09.2022).</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Relli V., Trerotola M., Guerra E., Alberti S.
